The
402 SPORT Beam Scale is Certifiable, but it is NOT Legal
for Trade (LFT). Health-O-Meter describes Certifiable
as - "can be certified to hold a certain tolerance".
Legal for trade
- means a weighing or measuring device has been approved for
use in commercial (or trade) applications. Precision
Weighing Balances can't see how/why a consumer would want
to pay extra money for a scale that is Certifiable when it
really means nothing to us. If the scale was Legal For
Trade then we could understand paying extra. For example
a Diet Center that gets paid by the weight lost by the client
is suppose to have a Legal For Trade Scale to be in compliance
of the law. Many Weight Loss Center buy the Tanita
BWB-800-AS since it is LFT.
The 402 SPORT is sometimes used for weigh-ins at sanctioned
boxing or wrestling matches. The 402 SPORT provides

precisely when used on carpeting. Non-slip, vinyl-covered
platform measures 10-3/8 by 14 inches. Hardened steel
pivots and bearings; heavy-gauge enameled steel base and upright.
The base alone weights only 21 lbs. The entire unit
weighs 41 lbs and ships via UPS Ground for $40.00.

Shipping & handling for all physician beam balances
is $40 each. This is expensive but UPS charges
a fortune to ship the mechanical beam balances.
Although these phyisican beam balances weigh about 40
pounds UPS charges the rate for 70 pounds because of
the dimensions of the box (aka dimensional 2).
Because of this great expense in shipping we recommend
people consider going digital with either the Seca
882, Tanita
HD-351 or the Siltec
GS-1 (great value @ $78.95) which cost a lot less
to ship. Many of the digital scales we offer actually
provide greater readability, reliability and performance
that the mechanical beam balances. Those olden
days of people not trusting digital scales really need
to change their way of thinking since digital scales
are really the "weigh to go". In addition,
digital scales take up less room than the mechanical
beam balances, greater portability and cost a lot less
money to ship so UPS doesn't make so much money shipping
these bulky mechanical physician beam balances.
